Branding For The Hertie Foundation

The nonprofit Hertie Foundation builds upon the lifetime achievements of Georg Karg, the late owner of Hertie Waren- und Kaufhaus GmbH who died in 1972. With yearly funding of EUR 20 to 25 million, it is among the largest private foundations in Germany. Its main areas of focus are neuroscience, social innovation and education.

5W has been a partner of the foundation for many years. Now, we have been commissioned to further develop the foundation’s branding, unifying the complex system of the foundation’s subsidiaries and projects under one uniform branding architecture, while still maintaining the individual identities of the respective stakeholders.

To this end, we updated the entire corporate design, i.e., the foundation’s logo, the color coding as well as both imagery and design language. We are pleased with the final product, and we look forward to working on more common projects.
